Steeple Fire Update

Dear Monumental Family,

This morning, our church's steeple caught fire, and our steeple was lost. While rebuilding will have to take place, the most important thing is that all of our staff exited the building safely.

There will be some water damage to the interior, but the extent of that damage is not known at this time. Local fire personnel has been working hard most of the day and we appreciate their service. Our trustees and faithful members have been on the scene addressing needs related to insurance, clean-up, and securing our property. Our trustees are on top of every aspect of this difficult situation. We know there are outstanding questions you may have about the fire. Know that we will do our best to confirm accurate information.

Plans are being made for Sunday's worship. As soon as final plans are made about our worship service, you will receive an email with those plans. Please be safe during the winter snow storm and continue to pray for our church family.

We ask your heartfelt prayers for the service personnel, roofers, staff, church members, and others who may answer the call to help.

Although devastation comes, we are grateful for what God is providing for us: An awesome community who surrounded us with presence and prayer in Olde Towne today. Extended family and friends of MUMC who reached out on social media and by phone calls to offer support. Our brothers and sisters in Christ who share our commitment to the gospel and who shore us up in times of need.

These words from scripture have always been some of my favorite and in times like these, we turn to God and God's word for encouragement and a reminder that we are not alone:

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. Isaiah 43:1-2

My heart is with you during this heartbreaking moment in the life of our church. If you need to call me, you can reach me at 804-334-5859. My own prayers rise with yours and God will be faithful.

Grace and Peace, Pastor Megan
